I almost called 911
Today the kids were out back talking to their friends through the backyard fence. Apparently they were trading pieces of candy. Madilyn, Emma and Cody each had a minature bag of skittles and they were sharing with their friends. I was unaware of what they were trading for, or that they were trading at all for that matter. I was on the phone with Ryan and Madi came running in with a panic look on her face. She managed to whisper or gasp "jawbreaker" She was choking! I threw the phone down in a panic and started to pat her on the back. She wasn't coughing or anything. It was so scary. It was not going to budge. It was really stuck!! She even thew up a little and it still wasn't coming. I got behind her and did the heimlich manuever and to my amazement I heard a little plink on the floor. Madi gasped for air and finally was able to catch her breath before she started throwing up some more. I was going to give it about 5 more seconds and then I was going to call 911. This was all in a matter of 15-20 seconds....the scariest seconds of my life. I know that Heavenly Father was watching out for Madilyn. That jawbreaker was really lodged in there good. To me it is a miracle that she is okay. I told her how proud I was of her for coming inside and getting help and for trying to tell me what she was choking on. I aked her what she was thinking about when she was choking. She said she thought she was going to die. How scary for her. She has a sore throat but I am so glad she is okay. Emma was terrified also. She said she was glad it wasn't her :) She also ran out and told her friends to never give her sister a "law-breaker" again. I thought that was a good name for them. Jaw breakers should be against the law!! Madi didn't even know what it was. She thought it was chewy on the inside and Emma who spit hers out when she saw Madi choking, thought it was a gumball. I told Madi and Emma to always ask before they eat something that someone gives them. Madilyn colored a picture for me today of a horse galloping in the meadow and she wrote : Dear Mom, Thank you for saving my life. It made me smile. we both kinda laughed. I think I need to take a child CPR class, and hope I never have to use it. My faith was strenghened today.

ROSE! That is so scary! you are such a good mom. We are so glad that Madi is ok. & Good job to Emma You tell those neighbor kids!
I'm so glad that Madi is okay! I can only imagine how frightening that must have been. I remember Kermit having to turn Annaliese upside down and whacking her back to get a bite of food out that she was choking on out. It makes me never want to leave them alone! So glad Madi was able to come in and get your help!
WOW! Good job mommy!
How scary. Our son Dallin, when he was almost 1 yr. had swallowed a nickle and it got stuck, his lips were blue when we say him. Steven had taken CPR, she grabbed him laid him over on his arm and pounded the stupid nickle right out. It is amazing how well that works. I agree that is the scariest few seconds. Glad she is ok. What a big girl for coming to you.
How are you????? Are you getting ready for winter?
